About Me

My name is Aleshia and I am a trained SkyWarn Storm Spotter. I have been obsessed with storms ever since I was a little kid. I grew up in the Oklahoma City area, and anytime there was a storm, my stepdad and I would stand on the porch and watch the storms. He taught me about wall clouds, funnel clouds, lightning, storm development, and things of that nature.

Living in Oklahoma City, I also grew up watching Gary England on the TV anytime severe weather would happen, and he was great at showing what different things meant and talking about what was happening. He very quickly became someone I looked up to. As a young kid, I wanted to be a meteorologist just like Gary England. I obsessed over storms, sometimes to the point where my parents thought I was afraid of them because I would watch storm coverage even when they were nowhere near us, I just liked watching and learning.

By middle school, I knew I wanted to be a storm chaser. I knew it was dangerous, but I wasn't scared. I wasn't afraid of tornadoes. I found them fascinating, and I wanted to learn more about them. I grew up seeing the News 9 storm chasers Val and Amy sharing videos that they got of storms and using their love of chasing to help their community. I knew I wanted to do that.

At the time of writing this, I am now 34, and a lot of things have held me back from being able to chase my dreams. Between health issues and not having the money and time to invest in the things I need to be able to chase safely, I won't let it stop me though. I spend a lot of time watching weather-related videos, even watching storm coverage for other states sometimes. I've spent a lot of time doing free courses on MetEd (a free educational site about meteorology).
As of right now, I have not gone to college for meteorology, however, I have received (and continue to receive) as much free education as I can on the subject.

About This Blog

The purpose of my Facebook page and this blog is to teach people what I know to try to help keep them safe during severe weather. I plan to share some very basic tips on what to do to prepare for severe weather, talk about past events, and share my thoughts on storm-related movies. There's probably more that I will blog about as I come up with topics to talk about.

What's Else Do I Have Planned?

I'm in the process of trying to set up a YouTube and a TikTok where I will share storm safety tips, and talk about past events. This YouTube and TikTok will be a place where I eventually share forecasts, and tornado chase videos.

I plan to save money to be able to invest in my pages and blog more, to be able to provide more content, and better content. I also plan to invest in a storm chasing vehicle and the things necessary so I can safely go out on a chase.

As I continue on this journey, I am sure other things will come up, I will get other ideas of things I want to do, and different types of content that I want to share, but my goal remains the same; to help my community stay safe during severe weather. If you are reading this, regardless of where you are, you are part of my community, and I want to help you stay safe. So follow me on Facebook so you don't miss any of my posts.

Thanks for reading.
